What AI should cost: the right model for each task
Many AI projects look affordable in the pilot and expensive in daily use. The reason is often simple: every task, big or small, is sent to the largest and most expensive model.
Split the work
Most AI workflows consist of many small steps – sorting, extracting, summarising – and a few hard ones that need real reasoning. Small models handle the routine steps reliably; only the hard questions go to a large model.
Send only what is needed
Costs grow with the amount of text a model has to read. A good system gives the model only the documents and passages that matter for the question, not everything at once.
Measure in daily use
We watch quality and cost together once a system is live. If a cheaper model does a step just as well, we switch. If quality drops, we see it early.
- The right model for each step
- Only the information that is needed
- Quality and cost measured together
Economy is a design decision
What AI costs is decided when the system is designed, not when the invoice arrives. That is why we treat it as one of our principles from the start.
